Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare soft tissue tumor. This case highlights successful treatment of DFSP in a pediatric patient with no recurrence after 1.5 years.

  • Childhood onset of DFSP is rare, typically presenting on the trunk or proximal extremities.
  • Early diagnosis in children is crucial to prevent increased morbidity.

Observation:

  • A case of DFSP in a 9-year-old female child is presented.
  • The lesion was treated with an excision biopsy using a 1 cm margin.
  • Histopathological confirmation of the diagnosis was obtained.

Findings:

  • The patient was monitored for recurrence following the excision biopsy.
  • No recurrence of DFSP was observed during the 1.5-year follow-up period.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of a high index of suspicion for DFSP in pediatric patients.
  • Complete surgical excision with adequate margins appears effective in managing pediatric DFSP.
  • Long-term surveillance is essential for pediatric DFSP patients to detect any potential recurrence.
