Background:

  • Dual sequential external defibrillation (DSED) involves simultaneous discharge of two defibrillators with different pad placements.
  • This technique, traditionally used in electrophysiology, is now being applied in emergency and prehospital settings for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Observation:

  • A case of refractory ventricular fibrillation (RVF) in the emergency department (ED) was treated with DSED.
  • The patient experienced successful resuscitation and survived to hospital discharge with intact neurological function.
