Bone remodeling is a continuous and balanced process of bone resorption by osteoclasts and bone formation by osteoblasts. In adults, it helps maintain bone mass and calcium homeostasis. While mechanical stress can stimulate turnover as part of the normal maintenance and reparative process, several hormones also regulate bone remodeling.

Background:

Healthcare providers require strong osteoporosis knowledge for effective patient management.
Limited research exists on osteoporosis knowledge among nurses.
This study addresses the knowledge gap in osteoporosis among nursing professionals.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the current level of osteoporosis knowledge among nurses.
To identify specific areas of insufficient knowledge regarding osteoporosis.
To inform the development of targeted educational interventions for nurses.

Main Methods:

A modified Facts on Osteoporosis Quiz (FOOQ) was administered.
The study involved 67 nurses in April 2017.
Quantitative assessment of osteoporosis knowledge was conducted.

Main Results:

Nurses showed partial understanding of osteoporosis.
Significant knowledge deficits were observed concerning the impact of adolescent weight on bone health.
Insufficient knowledge was noted regarding the role of physical exercise and calcium intake during adolescence in osteoporosis prevention.

Conclusions:

The study highlights a need for enhanced osteoporosis education for nurses.
Educational programs should emphasize the critical influence of adolescent lifestyle factors (weight, exercise, calcium) on osteoporosis.
Improving nurses' knowledge is crucial for effective osteoporosis prevention and management strategies.
