Researchers found that shifting from acidosis to a neutral or slightly alkaline pH improved platelet aggregation, calcium and serotonin release, and coagulation factor II availability. Prothrombin and partial thromboplastin times normalized at pH 7.0, while fibrinogen levels remained unchanged. These findings may explain why maintaining gastric pH at 7.0 can help control bleeding. The study supports the clinical use of pH adjustment in managing gastric hemorrhage.
