Summary

Two-person chest compressions, guided by hemodynamic monitoring, achieved adequate depth and restored spontaneous circulation during intraoperative cardiac arrest. This technique improved outcomes in a critical care case study.

Area of Science:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Critical Care Medicine
  • Cardiovascular Research

Background:

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) success rates are generally low.

  • Intraoperative cardiac arrests have higher rates of return of spontaneous circulation compared to other settings.
  • Achieving optimal chest compression depth (>5 cm) during CPR is challenging but crucial.
