Risk Factors for Postpartum Thyroid Dysfunction in Euthyroid Women Prior to Pregnancy.

Postpartum thyroid dysfunction (PPTD) risk is higher in women with a family history of thyroid disease, smoking history, autoimmune thyroid disease, positive thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), or thyroid ultrasound hypoechogenicity. Lower pre-pregnancy BMI is also a significant risk factor.

- Women with PPTD had a significantly lower pre-pregnancy BMI (22.80±0.55) compared to controls (26.25±0.97).
- Independent risk factors identified were TPOAb positivity, family history of thyroid disease, smoking, and lower pre-pregnancy BMI.
Conclusions:
- Several factors are associated with an increased risk of PPTD in the studied population.
- Screening for thyroid disorders in women with identified risk factors may be beneficial for early detection and intervention.
