Summary

Pig islets offer a promising solution for type 1 diabetes treatment, with clinical trials showing reduced insulin needs and fewer hypoglycemic episodes. Ongoing research addresses immune rejection and porcine endogenous retroviruses (PERVs) for safer xenotransplantation.
