Summary

This study shows ileal neobladder reconstruction after radical cystoprostatectomy leads to excellent functional outcomes. Patients achieved complete continence and good bladder capacity with no upper tract issues.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the functional outcomes of ileal neobladder reconstruction.
  • To assess continence, bladder capacity, and upper tract function post-surgery.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluation of 5 patients undergoing radical cystoprostatectomy with ileal neobladder.
  • Post-operative assessment of recovery, continence, bladder capacity, and residual volumes.
  • Ultrasound and intravenous urography to assess upper urinary tract status.

Main Results:

  • All 5 patients had good post-operative recovery.
  • Complete day and night continence achieved by 3 months in all patients.
  • Neobladder capacities ranged 475-690 mL; residual volumes 23-65 mL.
  • Neobladder pressures remained below 35 mm H2O.
  • No signs of obstruction or reflux in upper tracts on imaging.

Conclusions:

  • Ileal neobladder reconstruction is a safe and effective urinary diversion method.
  • It provides excellent functional results, including continence and adequate capacity.
  • The procedure preserves upper urinary tract integrity.
