Abstract:
Most of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is thought to be the result of interaction between genetic and environmental factors. However, the genetic components discovered to date can explain only a small proportion of the observed heritability. The "missing heritability" may be accounted for by rare variants, gene-environment interactions, and epigenetics.
