Summary

Intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy effectively treats non-union in femoral neck fractures, achieving high union rates and good functional outcomes in young adults. This surgical technique offers a viable alternative to arthroplasty for complex cases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy in managing non-union of femoral neck fractures.
  • To assess union rates, functional outcomes, and complications associated with this procedure.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective study of 44 patients (age < 65) with femoral neck non-union was conducted.
  • Patients underwent intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy.
  • Evaluated parameters included Pauwel's angle, Garden classification, fracture and osteotomy site union, osteoporosis, and avascular necrosis (AVN).

  • Complete union was achieved in 93% of cases.
