Rest period length significantly impacts upper body exercise volume. Shorter rests reduce total repetitions, while longer rests (3-5 minutes) benefit heavier loads (80% of one-rep max) for better recovery and volume. Lighter loads (50% of one-rep max) are more sensitive to rest duration.
