    Background:

    • Bladder dysfunction and falls are prevalent in multiple sclerosis (MS).
    • The relationship between specific bladder issues and fall risk in MS patients remains unclear.
    • This study aimed to investigate the association between bladder dysfunction and falls in MS.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine the association between specific types of bladder dysfunction and prospectively recorded falls.
    • To clarify the link between urinary symptoms and fall recurrence in individuals with MS.
    • To provide insights for fall prevention strategies in MS management.

    Main Methods:

    • Fifty-one relapsing-remitting MS patients (aged 18-50, EDSS ≤6.0) completed bladder symptom questionnaires.
    • Participants prospectively recorded falls daily for 3 months using fall calendars.
    • Logistic regression analysis, adjusted for confounders, assessed the link between baseline bladder dysfunction and faller status.

    Main Results:

    • A significant association was found between urinary urgency with incontinence and recurrent falls.
    • Recurrent fallers experienced a 57.57-fold increased odds of urinary urgency with incontinence.
    • The association remained significant after adjusting for age, sex, and disability.

    Conclusions:

    • Urinary urgency with incontinence is a significant risk factor for recurrent falls in individuals with mild-to-moderate MS.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and evaluate interventions.
    • Bladder management programs may play a role in reducing fall risk among MS patients.
