Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

6.4K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

4.5K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

2.2K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

Obedience01:08

Obedience

35.7K
According to obedience research, we may harm others under the forceful pressures of an authority figure (Milgram, 1974). How about if the inappropriate orders were delivered with less force? The increasing interdependence between nurses and physicians compelled Hofling and his colleagues to explore nurses’ reactions to a potentially harmful medical request made by the perceived authority figure, the doctor (Hofling, Brotzman, Dalrymple, Graves, & Pierce, 1966). In this situation,...

Fundamentals of Nursing Process II01:25

Fundamentals of Nursing Process II

5.9K
There are several characteristics related to delivering nursing care. One vital characteristic of the nursing process is that it can be used to protect nurses and justify the provided care. Productive use of the nursing process requires the knowledge and skills of nurses to assess and solve issues. Nurses should develop and strengthen their critical thinking skills and evidence-based nursing interventions to improve their skills in formulating nursing care plans. A well-defined approach to...

    Summary

This pilot study shows that mental health nursing simulations effectively increase nursing students' knowledge and confidence in managing workplace violence. Experiential learning with standardized patients improved their ability to de-escalate agitated patients.

    Area of Science:

    • Nursing Education
    • Mental Health Nursing
    • Patient Safety

    Background:

    • Workplace violence (WPV) poses a significant risk to nurses and nursing students.
    • Effective training is crucial for healthcare professionals to manage aggressive patient behaviors.
    • Existing training methods may not adequately prepare students for real-world WPV scenarios.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop and evaluate a pilot mental health nursing simulation focused on workplace violence.
    • To enhance undergraduate nursing students' knowledge of WPV.
    • To improve students' confidence in recognizing aggression and applying de-escalation techniques.

    Main Methods:

    • A simulated scenario involving an agitated psychiatric patient, portrayed by a standardized patient (SP), was created.
    • Undergraduate nursing students in a psychiatric nursing course participated in the simulation.
    • Qualitative and quantitative data were collected using surveys and the Mental Health Nursing Clinical Confidence Scale.

    Main Results:

    • Post-simulation, students demonstrated increased confidence and knowledge regarding WPV.
    • Students reported the simulation as a useful learning experience.
    • The standardized patient approach fostered an effective experiential learning environment.

    Conclusions:

    • Mental health nursing simulations utilizing standardized patients are effective for WPV training.
    • This simulation enhanced students' preparedness for managing aggressive patient encounters.
    • Further implementation of such simulations can improve nursing student readiness and patient safety.
