Summary

Mice selected for cognitive abilities showed altered intermale aggression. These behavioral changes in aggression are potentially linked to shifts in anxiety levels across selection generations.

Background:

Intermale aggression is a complex behavior influenced by various factors.

Intermale aggression was assessed in selected mice and compared to control groups.

Anxiety levels were monitored across selection generations in both selected and control mice.

Main Results:

Mice selected for high cognitive trait scores exhibited significant changes in intermale aggression levels.
A correlation was observed between the changes in aggression and alterations in anxiety levels during the selection process.
Control groups did not show comparable changes in aggression or anxiety, highlighting the effect of selection.

Conclusions:

Selection for enhanced cognitive extrapolation ability in mice influences intermale aggression.
Anxiety levels appear to be a potential mediating factor in the observed behavioral changes.
These findings suggest a link between cognitive function, anxiety, and aggression in this mouse model.
