Disorders of the Female Reproductive System01:24

Disorders of the Female Reproductive System

4.6K
The female reproductive system can be affected by several disorders, including Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), endometriosis, and various forms of cancer. PMS and PMDD are cyclical conditions that cause physical and emotional distress, with symptoms that include edema, mood swings, and food cravings. PMDD is a more severe form of PMS characterized by increased symptom severity that peaks during the luteal phase and tends to improve or resolve shortly after...

Pneumothorax-II

1.1K
Pneumothorax is a medical condition defined by the buildup of air in the pleural space between the lungs and the chest wall. This accumulation of air can lead to partial or complete lung collapse, resulting in a range of clinical manifestations. Understanding the clinical presentation and effective management strategies is crucial for healthcare professionals in providing timely and appropriate care to individuals with pneumothorax.

Metastasis

Metastasis is the spread of cancer cells from the original site to distant locations in the body. Cancer cells can spread via blood vessels (hematogenous) as well as lymph vessels in the body.
Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition
The epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition or EMT is a developmental process commonly observed in wound healing, embryogenesis, and cancer metastasis. EMT is induced by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) or receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) ligands, which further...

The Mammary Glands

2.4K
The female breast is a hemispheric projection of variable size positioned anterior to the pectoralis major and serratus anterior muscles. A fascia layer composed of dense, irregular connective tissue connects it to these muscles.
Each breast features a pigmented projection known as the nipple, through which milk emerges via closely spaced openings of ducts, referred to as lactiferous ducts. Surrounding the nipple is a circular pigmented area of skin named the areola, which appears rough due to...

    Summary

Hydatid cyst disease, a rare zoonotic condition, can present as isolated breast masses in endemic areas. This case highlights the importance of considering recurrent hydatidosis in patients with a history of breast surgery for this disease.

    Area of Science:

    • Medical Parasitology
    • Surgical Oncology
    • Infectious Diseases

    Background:

    • Hydatid cyst is a significant zoonotic disease in endemic regions, posing a public health challenge.
    • Isolated breast hydatidosis is exceptionally rare, with limited documented cases.
    • Recurrent hydatidosis in the breast, particularly in the same location, is exceedingly uncommon.

    Observation:

    • This report details a case of recurrent isolated hydatid cyst in the right breast.
    • The patient had a prior surgical intervention for hydatid cyst in the same breast 9 years earlier.
    • The diagnosis was confirmed in a patient presenting with a cystic breast mass.

    Findings:

    • The case underscores the possibility of isolated recurrent hydatid cyst disease in the breast.

  • This presentation is novel, as isolated recurrent breast hydatidosis has not been previously reported in the literature.
  • The patient's history of surgery for breast hydatid cyst was a critical factor.
  • Implications:

    • Hydatid cyst should be included in the differential diagnosis of breast cystic masses, especially in endemic areas.
    • Clinicians must consider recurrent hydatid disease in patients with a history of breast hydatid cyst surgery.
    • This case expands the understanding of hydatid cyst disease presentation and recurrence patterns.
