Purpose of the Study:

  • To document the clinical and histopathological characteristics of conjunctival melanoma occurring during early pregnancy.
  • To highlight the management and outcomes of CM in a pregnant patient.

Main Methods:

  • A case report of a 37-year-old primigravida presenting with a rapidly growing conjunctival lesion in the first trimester.
  • Diagnosis confirmed by incisional biopsy, followed by surgical excision and cryotherapy.
  • Long-term follow-up of 5 years.

Main Results:

  • Histopathology revealed invasive malignant melanoma with surrounding in situ changes, measuring 10.5 mm thick with high mitotic activity.
  • The patient underwent successful surgical treatment and delivered a healthy baby.
  • No evidence of metastasis in the placenta and no recurrence or distant metastasis during 5 years of follow-up.

Conclusions:

  • Conjunctival melanoma during pregnancy is exceptionally rare.
  • Close monitoring of pigmented conjunctival lesions in pregnant women is recommended due to the risk of malignant transformation.
  • Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential for favorable prognosis.
