BRAF V600E mutations are common in colorectal cancer (CRC) with signet ring cells. This mutation appears regardless of the percentage of signet ring cells present in the tumor.

- 11 out of 28 CRCs (39.3%) exhibited BRAF V600E mutation.
- BRAF mutations were observed in 36.8% of tumors with <50% signet ring cells and 44.4% with >50% signet ring cells.
- Mutation rates were similar across different percentages of signet ring cell presence (<10% and >10%).
Conclusions:
- BRAF mutation is closely associated with the presence of malignant signet ring cells in colorectal cancer.
- The percentage of signet ring cells does not appear to influence the presence of BRAF mutations.
