Area of Science:

  • Cardiovascular Surgery
  • Surgical Devices
  • Medical Engineering

Background:

  • The HEARTSTRING device is a valuable tool for proximal anastomosis.
  • Its irreversible removal presents challenges, especially if thread cutting occurs during tying.
  • Repairing such complications without side clamping is difficult.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a simple, modified technique for the safe removal of the HEARTSTRING device.
  • To address the limitations of the standard HEARTSTRING removal procedure.

Main Methods:

  • Development of a novel, simple modified technique for HEARTSTRING device removal.
  • Focus on enabling safe removal even after thread cutting during the tying process.

Main Results:

  • The modified technique facilitates easier and safer removal of the HEARTSTRING device.
  • It mitigates the complications associated with thread cutting during surgical anastomosis.

Conclusions:

  • The developed technique offers a practical solution for the safe removal of the HEARTSTRING device.
  • This modification improves the device's utility by addressing a significant drawback in its removal process.
