Background:

Acitretin has a long history of use in treating severe psoriasis.
This study aims to optimize patient care by exploring acitretin's broader applications.

Purpose of the Study:

To optimize patient care for psoriasis and other keratinization disorders.
To recognize and define the role of acitretin in treating these conditions.

Main Methods:

A comprehensive literature review was performed.
A panel of Canadian dermatologists developed a case-based clinical pathway.

Main Results:

The clinical pathway includes management strategies for plaque psoriasis with hyperkeratotic plantar disease.
It also covers palmoplantar pustulosis, hyperkeratotic hand dermatitis, lichen planus, lamellar ichthyosis, and hidradenitis suppurativa.

Conclusions:

The developed clinical pathway reflects current Canadian practices for acitretin use.
Recommendations support acitretin's role in managing severe psoriasis and other keratinization disorders.
