Long non-coding RNA SPRY4 intron transcript 1 (SPRY4-IT1) is abnormally expressed in digestive cancers. This meta-analysis suggests SPRY4-IT1 overexpression correlates with poor prognosis and advanced disease in these malignancies.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Genetics
Background:
- Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are increasingly recognized for their roles in cancer development.
- SPRY4 intron transcript 1 (SPRY4-IT1) has been implicated in various malignant digestive tumors, but its prognostic significance remains unclear.
Purpose of the Study:
- To conduct a meta-analysis evaluating the prognostic value of SPRY4-IT1 in digestive system malignancies.
- To assess the association between SPRY4-IT1 expression levels and patient survival and clinicopathological features.
Main Methods:
- Systematic literature search of PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Wiley Online Library databases.
- Inclusion of five studies with a total of 518 patients diagnosed with digestive system malignancies.
- Meta-analysis using pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and confidence intervals (CIs) to determine prognostic associations.
Main Results:
- Overexpression of SPRY4-IT1 was associated with poorer overall survival (OS) (HR = 1.24, 95% CI: 0.49-1.98).
- Increased SPRY4-IT1 expression positively correlated with lymph node metastasis (HR = 1.45, 95% CI = 0.88-2.02), TNM stage (HR = 1.24, 95% CI = 0.78-1.70), and invasion depth (HR = 1.25, 95% CI = 0.63-1.88).
Conclusions:
- lncRNA SPRY4-IT1 may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker in malignant digestive tumors.
- Further research is warranted to validate SPRY4-IT1 as a clinical prognostic marker for digestive cancers.
