Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize cognitive deficits in patients with post-stroke dysphagia.
  • To analyze the association between cognitive dysfunction and dysphagia severity in supratentorial stroke.

  • 55 patients with supratentorial stroke were assessed for dysphagia using the dysphagia severity scale (DSS) and videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS).
  • Comprehensive cognitive function tests were administered to compare performance between dysphagic and non-dysphagic groups.
  • Correlations between cognitive scores, DSS, and swallowing parameters were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Dysphagic patients exhibited significantly lower cognitive test scores compared to non-dysphagic patients.
