Summary

Individuals with severe obesity show visuospatial constructional inefficiencies, particularly in organizational strategy, as measured by the Rey Complex Figure Test (RCFT). Background:

Visuospatial constructional abilities are crucial for daily functioning.
Severe obesity is associated with potential cognitive alterations.
The Rey Complex Figure Test (RCFT) is a standard tool for assessing visuospatial skills.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate visuospatial construction and organizational strategies in individuals with severe obesity using the RCFT.
To evaluate the validity of the Q-score in measuring performance quality on the RCFT.
To compare performance between morbidly obese (MO) patients and healthy controls (HC).

Main Methods:

Administered the RCFT to 96 non-demented MO patients and 100 HC.
Scored RCFT performance using standard criteria and the Q-score system.
Analyzed differences in Copy accuracy, Q-score, Unit points, and Order points between groups.

Main Results:

No significant difference in RCFT Copy accuracy between MO and HC groups.
MO patients performed significantly poorer than HC on the Q-score and Unit points.
Differences were slightly reduced after adjusting for demographic factors.

Conclusions:

Evidence supports visuospatial constructional inefficiency in individuals with severe obesity.
The Q-score appears to capture broader cognitive processes than traditional scoring methods.
The Q-score offers a more comprehensive assessment of task approach and organizational strategy.
