Summary

Athletes in collision sports had higher recurrence rates and slower return to sports after arthroscopic shoulder stabilization compared to contact athletes. This study highlights differences in outcomes for anterior shoulder instability based on sport type.

  • Collision athletes had a higher recurrence rate (14.7%) compared to contact athletes (0%; P < .01).

Conclusions:

  • Arthroscopic stabilization is effective for shoulder function and return to sports in both contact and collision athletes.
  • Collision athletes experienced higher failure rates and slower return to pre-injury activity levels.
  • Sport type is a significant factor influencing outcomes after surgical treatment for anterior shoulder instability.
