Background:

Infants with wheezing often require lung function tests.
Sedation is sometimes necessary to facilitate these tests in infants.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of temazepam syrup as a sedative agent for infant pulmonary function testing.

Main Methods:

Six infants with a history of wheezing received temazepam syrup for sedation.
Doses ranged from 2.5 mg/kg to 4.5 mg/kg.
Lung function tests were attempted during the sedation period.

Main Results:

Only one of six infants remained asleep for the required 1-hour duration.
The majority of infants awoke within 15 minutes, preventing test completion.

Conclusions:

Temazepam syrup, at the tested dosages, is not reliably effective for sedating infants undergoing lung function tests.
The sedative's short duration and potential side effects limit its utility in this clinical setting.
