    Summary

    Three-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) showed differences in some cephalometric measurements compared to 2D methods. However, 2D CBCT cephalograms are comparable to traditional lateral cephalometric radiography.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare cephalometric measurements obtained from 2D lateral cephalometric radiography (LCR), 2D CBCT-generated cephalograms, and 3D CBCT.

    Main Methods:

    • 60 participants underwent imaging using 2D LCR, 2D CBCT-generated cephalograms, and 3D CBCT.
    • 11 angular and 11 linear measurements were analyzed.
    • Statistical analysis included ANOVA and Fisher's LSD test.

    Main Results:

    • Significant differences were found between 2D cephalograms and 3D CBCT for 2 angular and 5 linear measurements.
    • 3D CBCT measurements were generally larger than 2D measurements.
    • No significant differences were observed between the two 2D methods or for vertical cephalometric analyses across all modalities.

    Conclusions:

    • 2D LCR and 2D CBCT-generated cephalograms yield similar cephalometric measurements.
    • 3D CBCT may offer different values for specific angular and linear measurements compared to 2D methods.
    • 2D CBCT cephalograms can serve as a viable alternative to LCR when CBCT imaging is already indicated.
