  • No significant differences in sleepiness were observed during the first and morning working periods between the two shift types.

Conclusions:

  • Alternating day shift bus drivers experience greater sleepiness while driving during later work periods.
  • Irregular work schedules and longer working hours in Alternating day shifts may contribute to increased sleepiness.
  • Findings underscore the need for strategies to mitigate sleepiness in bus drivers on Alternating day shifts to enhance road safety.
