Background:

Laparoscopic liver surgery is rapidly advancing, necessitating standardized clinical practice guidelines.
Ensuring the safe progression and widespread adoption of this technique is crucial for patient outcomes.

Framework:

A novel approach integrated the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) methodology, the Delphi method for expert consensus, and the AGREE II-GRS Instrument.
This framework ensured rigorous evidence assessment, consensus building, and quality validation.

Implementation:

A committee of 22 European experts, 7 junior experts, and an independent validation committee of 11 international surgeons participated.
67 guideline statements were developed, achieving over 95% expert consensus and independent validation.

Implications:

The resulting Southampton Guidelines provide a validated framework for the safe development and progression of laparoscopic liver surgery.
These guidelines amalgamate current evidence, expert knowledge, and stakeholder input, adhering to international methodological standards.
