    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the surface roughness changes in different types of resilient liners and acrylic resin control specimens.
    • To understand the relationship between oral tissue health and the physical properties of denture biomaterials.

    • A randomized clinical trial involving 30 patients with complete dentures, with and without denture stomatitis.
    • Insertion of acrylic resin (control), silicone-based, and acrylic resin-based liners into dentures.
    • Surface roughness (Ra) measurements taken at baseline, and after 7, 14, and 21 days of prosthesis use.
    • Statistical analysis using three-way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls test.

    • Patients with denture stomatitis exhibited significantly higher surface roughness (Ra) on their denture liners (P < .001).
    • All tested liner materials demonstrated increased surface roughness after 14 days of clinical use.

    • Denture stomatitis is associated with increased surface roughness of resilient denture liners.
    • Prolonged use of complete dentures leads to a progressive increase in liner surface roughness.
    • These findings suggest that material degradation and biofilm accumulation may be accelerated in patients with poor oral hygiene or compromised tissue health.
