Post-ischemic strictures, often found in the ileum and colon, present characteristic computed tomography (CT) findings. These features, including wall thickening and enhancement patterns, aid in differentiating them from other bowel diseases.

Background:

  • Ischemic bowel disease can lead to post-ischemic strictures.
  • Differentiating these strictures from other bowel pathologies is clinically important.

Observation:

  • Eight patients with ischemic bowel disease and subsequent stricture formation were analyzed.
  • CT imaging and pathological findings were correlated.
  • Strictures were most common in the ileum, followed by the colon (watershed zones) and jejunum.

Findings:

  • Pathological features include deep ulceration, fibrosis, and transmural inflammation.
  • CT revealed concentric wall thickening (87.5%) with moderate enhancement (87.5%).
  • Portal phase enhancement greater than arterial phase was noted in 66.7% of cases.
