Injection of fat for soft tissue augmentation.
1Department of Otolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock.
This study compared two ways to add fat under the skin in rabbits. One group had fat injected, and the other had fat surgically placed. After several weeks, both groups had similar results in how much fat stayed and how it looked. About 40% of the injection and implantation sites could still be felt. Under a microscope, fat was present at most sites, but some fat cells were destroyed. The authors say that injecting fat could be a useful method for body contouring, even though it's not perfect. They don't claim it's the best option, but it might work well in some cases.
