Summary

Pulmonary metastasectomy is a safe and feasible treatment for sarcoma patients, even with multiple or bilateral lung metastases. Thoracic lymph node involvement is uncommon and does not impact survival.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the Essen experience in surgical management of patients with pulmonary sarcoma metastases.
  • To analyze perioperative outcomes of pulmonary metastasectomy for sarcoma.

  • Retrospective single-center analysis of perioperative outcomes (1997-2017).
  • Inclusion of published papers on pulmonary sarcoma metastasectomy.
  • Analysis of 327 patients undergoing pulmonary metastasectomy for extrathoracic sarcomas.

  • 327 patients underwent pulmonary metastasectomy with curative intent.
  • Most patients had 1-3 resected metastases (86.54%).

  • The procedure is effective even for bilateral and multiple lung metastases.
