Survival outcomes for patients with bilateral breast cancer are poorer than predicted. This study analyzed synchronous and metachronous tumors, finding survival rates lower than expected based on established prognostic factors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate survival in patients with bilateral breast cancer.

  • Retrospective analysis of 38 patients with bilateral breast cancer.
  • Categorization into synchronous (14) and metachronous (24) tumor groups.
  • Comparison of actual survival with predictions from a validated index (lymph node status, hormone receptor status, age).

  • Overall survival was less than predicted by the index for individual tumors.
