Existing definitions vary, hindering consistent understanding and application.

Purpose of the Study:

To establish a consensus-based, comprehensive definition for integrative oncology.
To facilitate clear communication and focused advancement of the field.

Main Methods:

A mixed-methods approach was employed.
Included literature analysis and a consensus procedure with expert panels and surveys.

Main Results:

A two-sentence definition was developed based on identified themes.
Survey respondents positively affirmed the draft definition, contributing to the final version.

Conclusions:

The finalized definition is: "Integrative oncology is a patient-centered, evidence-informed field of cancer care that utilizes mind and body practices, natural products, and/or lifestyle modifications from different traditions alongside conventional cancer treatments. Integrative oncology aims to optimize health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the cancer care continuum and to empower people to prevent cancer and become active participants before,during, and beyond cancer treatment."
This definition promotes understanding and cohesive efforts in advancing integrative oncology.
