Forcefeeding practices and otitis media in Ilorin, Nigeria
Six hundred and ten mothers were interviewed with respect to forcefeeding. 390 (64.37%) forcefed their children. Refusal of feeds (86.9%) was the main reason given by mothers necessitating forcefeeding. 139 (35.5%) of the mothers had experienced one child or the other aspirating the feeds during forcefeeding. 22 (8.2%) of the forcefed children had otitis media while only 12 (5.5%) of those who were not forcefed had otitis media. The difference was significant (p less than 0.05). There is a strong association (p less than 0.001) between forcefeeding and level of formal education.
