Conclusions:
- HCl treatment significantly enhances MSPs for phosphorus removal via improved adsorption and efficient Mg2+ supply for struvite precipitation.
- The combined approach of adsorption and struvite precipitation using HCl-treated MSPs offers a promising strategy for wastewater phosphorus management.
