Summary

High admission blood glucose levels are linked to worse acute stroke mortality. Adding glucose status to the SOAR score slightly improves prediction of stroke mortality, benefiting patients with and without diabetes.

  • The SOAR (stroke subtype, Oxford Community Stroke Project classification, age, and pre-stroke modified Rankin) score is a validated predictor of acute stroke mortality.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the association between admission blood glucose levels and acute stroke mortality.
  • To determine the incremental value of incorporating glucose status into the SOAR score for predicting stroke mortality.

  • Analysis of data from stroke registers (2003-2013).
