Summary

Retroperitoneal Robot Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN) is a safe and effective surgical approach for kidney tumors. This study shows successful outcomes with no complications or positive margins in 81 patients.

Background:

Robot Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN) is increasingly used for kidney tumor treatment.
The retroperitoneal approach offers specific advantages in certain cases.

Purpose of the Study:

To present early outcomes of retroperitoneal RAPN.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of this surgical technique.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 81 retroperitoneal RAPN procedures performed between September 2010 and December 2015.
Data collected included tumor size, PADUA score, surgical time, ischemia time, blood loss, pathological stage, complications, and hospital stay.

Main Results:

All 81 cases were completed successfully without operative complications or conversion to open surgery.
Average surgical time was 177 minutes, with an average ischemia time of 4 minutes in 30 cases.
No positive surgical margins were reported, and the average hospital stay was 3 days.

Conclusions:

The retroperitoneal RAPN approach is safe and effective for treating kidney tumors, including complex cases.
This technique combines the benefits of robotic surgery with the advantages of the retroperitoneoscopic approach.
