Summary

Retroperitoneal Robot Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN) is a safe and effective surgical approach for kidney tumors. This study shows successful outcomes with no complications or positive margins in 81 patients.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present early outcomes of retroperitoneal RAPN.
  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of this surgical technique.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 81 retroperitoneal RAPN procedures performed between September 2010 and December 2015.
  • Data collected included tumor size, PADUA score, surgical time, ischemia time, blood loss, pathological stage, complications, and hospital stay.

Main Results:

  • All 81 cases were completed successfully without operative complications or conversion to open surgery.
  • Average surgical time was 177 minutes, with an average ischemia time of 4 minutes in 30 cases.
  • No positive surgical margins were reported, and the average hospital stay was 3 days.

Conclusions:

  • The retroperitoneal RAPN approach is safe and effective for treating kidney tumors, including complex cases.
  • This technique combines the benefits of robotic surgery with the advantages of the retroperitoneoscopic approach.
