Background:

Occupational noise exposure is a significant global cause of hearing loss.
Identifying at-risk workers is crucial for effective preventative strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and validate a questionnaire-based algorithm for assessing individual worker noise exposure.
To integrate this tool into the OccIDEAS software platform for practical application.

Main Methods:

Developed a questionnaire algorithm within the OccIDEAS platform to estimate noise exposure based on task performance.
Validated the system by comparing OccIDEAS estimates with dosimeter measurements in 100 construction workers.

Main Results:

The OccIDEAS system demonstrated excellent ability to identify construction workers exceeding the workplace noise exposure limit (L_Aeq,8h≥85 dBA).
The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.81 (95% CI 0.72 to 0.90).

Conclusions:

The validated noise questionnaire is a valuable tool for epidemiological studies on occupational hearing loss.
This system can be effectively used for workplace health and safety applications to mitigate noise risks.
