Abstract:
Preview Although no one theory on aging explains satisfactorily why or how this process occurs, we know that aging causes physiologic changes and a progressive decline of functional organ reserve. The implications of these changes are increasingly important as the elderly segment of the population grows. In this article, Dr Troncale discusses the aging process and its effects, particularly in regard to drug therapy.
Insights
Aging leads to physiological changes and decreased organ function, impacting health, especially for the elderly. This article reviews the aging process and its effects on drug therapy.

Background:
- Aging is a complex process with no single unifying theory.
- Physiological changes and declining organ reserve characterize aging.
- The growing elderly population necessitates understanding aging's impact on health.
Purpose of the Study:
- To discuss the aging process.
- To examine the effects of aging on the body.
- To explore the implications of aging for drug therapy.
Main Methods:
- Review of existing literature on aging.
- Analysis of physiological changes associated with aging.
- Discussion of drug therapy considerations in the elderly.
Main Results:
- Aging involves progressive decline in functional organ reserve.
- Understanding aging is crucial for managing health in older adults.
- Drug therapy requires careful consideration due to age-related physiological changes.
Conclusions:
- Aging significantly impacts physiological functions and organ reserve.
- The aging process presents unique challenges for effective drug therapy.
- Further research is needed to optimize pharmacologic interventions for the elderly.

Cellular Clock Theory
The cellular clock theory posits that the human lifespan is closely tied to the finite capacity of cells to divide, a phenomenon governed by telomeres, which are protective caps at the ends of...
Bone Disorders
Bone deposition is also affected by the levels of sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone that promote osteoblast activity and bone matrix synthesis. When the level of these hormones decreases due to aging, it causes a reduction in bone deposition. As a result, bone resorption by osteoclasts...
