Abstract:
This article addresses the unpleasant subject of death--the death of a physician. Unlike the demise of other professionals, a doctor's death leaves a unique set of problems for a spouse to deal with. In addition to the legal requirements of returning the license to practice medicine, both the state and federal narcotics licenses, and the triplicate prescription forms, a doctor's spouse is also responsible for disposing of office equipment and making provisions for patient records. A 12-point outline offers a guide for physicians to follow in preparing a spouse for dealing with these problems.
