Sutureless aortic valve replacement is safe and effective for moderate-to-high-risk patients. This Spanish registry shows low morbidity and mortality, with excellent survival rates and good hemodynamic outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Surgery
- Interventional Cardiology
- Medical Devices
Background:
- Aortic valve replacement (AVR) risk is decreasing due to new techniques.
- Sutureless prostheses offer an alternative for specific patient groups.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the outcomes of sutureless aortic valve implantation in moderate-to-high-risk patients.
- To present results from a Spanish multicenter registry.
Main Methods:
- Prospective multicenter study from November 2013 to November 2016.
- Data collected from 448 patients receiving the Perceval S prosthesis.
- Analysis of perioperative and follow-up outcomes.
Main Results:
- Mean patient age was 79.2 years; 61.2% were female, with a mean EuroSCORE I of 11.15%.
- Observed mortality was 4.4%. Neurological events occurred in 2%.
- Survival at 6 months and 1 year was 98% for octogenarians; low rates of leakage and pacemaker implantation were observed.
Conclusions:
- Sutureless valve implantation is a reproducible procedure for moderate-to-high-risk patients.
- The technique demonstrates low morbidity and mortality.
- Good hemodynamic results and favorable long-term outcomes were achieved.
