Legal aspects of standards of practice

In the article Developing Unit-Specific Standards in the November/December 1988 issue of DCCN, the authors described techniques for developing and implementing unit-specific standards of practice in critical care. Here the nurse-attorney author adds another perspective, a legal one. This author suggests ways to word standards of practice so that they will be more useful in defending the nurse and the hospital in any potential negligence claims.
