Abstract:
Recently, asymptomatic protruded lumbar discs have been reported in the American literature as causing urinary retention. A 33-year-old woman with urinary retention was seen at Christchurch Hospital, and evaluation revealed an asymptomatic central protrusion of her L 4-5 disc. This was removed and a spinal fusion carried out with relief of her symptoms. The literature is briefly reviewed.
