Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of a single sauna session on arterial stiffness, blood pressure (BP), and blood-based biomarkers.

Main Methods:

  • An experimental study involving 102 participants with at least one cardiovascular risk factor.
  • Participants underwent a 30-minute sauna session at 73°C and 10-20% humidity.
  • Cardiovascular and blood parameters were measured before, immediately after, and 30 minutes post-sauna.

Main Results:

  • Sauna bathing significantly reduced carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (arterial stiffness) from 9.8 to 8.6 m/s.
  • Mean systolic BP decreased from 137 to 130 mmHg, and diastolic BP from 82 to 75 mmHg.
  • Systolic BP remained lower post-recovery, and significant changes were observed in hematological variables, with a slight increase in plasma creatinine.

Conclusions:
