Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) caused by ganglioglioma can mimic psychiatric disorders like panic attacks. Early brain imaging is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective surgical treatment in pediatric patients.

Background:

  • Ganglioglioma, a rare glioneuronal tumor, is a significant cause of drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).

Observation:

  • A 17-year-old male patient was diagnosed with lesional TLE due to a left temporal ganglioglioma.
  • The patient had a 5-year history of misdiagnosis as panic disorder, receiving ineffective psychotherapy before correct diagnosis.
  • This case represents the youngest pediatric patient reported with TLE masquerading as panic disorder.

Findings:
