    Summary

    Exercise stress tests can reveal left ventricular dysfunction in chronic aortic regurgitation (AR) patients. Changes in R wave amplitude during exercise testing are the most effective indicator of abnormal ejection fraction (EF) in AR.

    Background:

    • Chronic aortic regurgitation (AR) can lead to left ventricular dysfunction.
    • Assessing left ventricular function during stress is crucial for managing AR.
    • Radionuclide angiography is a standard tool for evaluating cardiac function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of exercise stress testing in assessing left ventricular function in patients with chronic AR.
    • To identify exercise-induced changes in electrocardiographic parameters and ejection fraction (EF).
    • To determine the sensitivity and specificity of heart rate, ST segment, and R wave amplitude changes in detecting abnormal EF response.

    • Fourteen patients with chronic AR underwent radionuclide angiography at rest and during supine exercise.

    • R wave amplitude changes represent the most effective parameter for identifying exercise-induced left ventricular dysfunction in this population.
