  • A prospective observational registry of 676 TIA patients was analyzed.
  • Data collected included TIA etiology, patient demographics, vascular risk factors, and clinical TIA features.
  • New vascular events (stroke, coronary, peripheral) were tracked for a mean follow-up of 48.8 months.

Main Results:

  • 25.6% of patients experienced a new vascular event (NVE) within the follow-up period.
  • Independent predictors of NVEs included TIA etiology, signs of acute infarction, and symptom duration.
  • Large artery atherosclerosis and cardioaortic embolism etiologies showed the highest NVE risk.

Conclusions:

  • TIA etiology is the primary determinant of long-term vascular event risk.
  • Large artery atherosclerosis presents the highest risk for both stroke and non-stroke vascular events after TIA.
