    Area of Science:

    • Immunology
    • Cell Biology

    Background:

    • T lymphocytes and thymocytes are crucial components of the immune system.
    • Characterizing cell surface molecules is vital for understanding immune cell function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify and characterize the molecular target of the mouse monoclonal antibody MRC OX-52 in rats.
    • To investigate the structure of the molecule recognized by MRC OX-52 on rat T lymphocytes and thymocytes.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized a mouse monoclonal antibody, MRC OX-52, for cell labeling.
    • Employed immunoprecipitation to isolate the target molecule.
    • Analyzed the molecular structure using SDS-PAGE to determine molecular weight.

    Main Results:

    • MRC OX-52 successfully labeled rat T lymphocytes and thymocytes.
    • Immunoprecipitation revealed a molecule with a two-chain structure.
    • The two chains had estimated molecular weights of 120,000 MW and 95,000 MW.

    Conclusions:

    • The antibody MRC OX-52 recognizes a specific cell surface molecule on rat T lymphocytes and thymocytes.
    • This molecule possesses a heterodimeric structure, indicating potential functional significance in T cell biology.
