    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Colorectal Surgery

    Background:

    • Voiding disturbances are a recognized complication of anal surgery.
    • These urological issues following anorectal procedures are frequently overlooked.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the incidence and nature of voiding disturbances after hemorrhoid surgery.
    • To assess the impact of anal surgery on lower urinary tract function.

    Main Methods:

    • Uroflowmetry and measurement of post-void residual urine were performed on 37 patients.
    • Pre-operative and post-operative evaluations were conducted to compare urinary function.

    Main Results:

    • 16 patients experienced decreased peak urinary flow post-operation.
    • 13 patients had significant residual urine (>100 ml), with 5 developing urinary retention.
    • A subset of patients reported persistent symptoms like stranguria, incontinence, nocturia, and frequency.

    Conclusions:

    • Hemorrhoid surgery can lead to significant post-operative voiding disturbances.
    • Regular urological monitoring is advised for patients experiencing urinary problems after anal surgery.
