Three superovulation protocols using FSH, eCG-FSH, and hMG were compared in dromedary camels. All protocols proved effective and interchangeable for reproductive treatments in camels.
Area of Science:
- Reproductive biology
- Veterinary medicine
- Camelid research
Background:
- Superovulation is crucial for assisted reproductive technologies in dromedary camels.
- Optimizing superovulation protocols is essential for maximizing reproductive efficiency.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare the efficacy of three distinct superovulation protocols in dromedary camels.
- To evaluate the impact of FSH, eCG-FSH, and hMG treatments on follicular development and corpus luteum formation.
Main Methods:
- Follicular waves in six dromedary camel donors were synchronized using GnRH injections.
- Superovulation treatments involved FSH, eCG-FSH, or hMG administered over 5.5 days.
- Ovarian activity, including follicle count, corpora lutea, and blastocyst development, was monitored via ultrasound.
Main Results:
- No significant differences were observed in the total number of corpora lutea across the three treatment groups.
- The number of expanded hatched blastocysts did not significantly differ between FSH, eCG-FSH, and hMG protocols.
- All tested superovulation protocols yielded successful outcomes in dromedary camels.
Conclusions:
- The study demonstrates that FSH, eCG-FSH, and hMG superovulation protocols are effective and can be used interchangeably in dromedary camels.
- These findings support the successful application of multiple superovulation strategies for camelid breeding programs.

ECG Interpretation of Rhythms
Components of the Electrocardiogram
The primary components of a normal ECG waveform in Normal sinus rhythm(NSR) include the P wave, PR interval, QRS complex, ST segment, T wave, and occasionally a U wave.
ECG waveforms are divided by vertical and horizontal lines at standard intervals.
The horizontal axis measures time and rate, and the vertical axis measures amplitude or voltage....
Correlation between ECG and Cardiac Cycle
A cardiac action potential originates in the SA node and spreads throughout the atria and the AV node in approximately 0.03 seconds. This results in the P wave in an ECG and triggers atrial contraction. The action potential is then briefly slowed at the AV node, allowing the atria to contract and fill the ventricles with blood before...
Comparing Copy Number Variations and SNPs
Copy number variations or CNVs are the structural variations that cover more than 1kb of DNA sequence. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), on the other hand, is a single nucleotide change or a point mutation that is found in more than 1%...

Sinus Node Arrhythmias
Sinus Bradycardia: Originating from the sinoatrial (SA) node, sinus bradycardia involves slower impulses, resulting in a heart rate of less than 60 beats per minute (bpm). Causes include sleep, vagal stimulation, beta-blockers, hypothyroidism,...
